Week 1 April 1: That's-a-Plenty:
1001 Jazz Steps!
Making your solo jazz more versatile, from static jazz 'steps'
to fluid jazz movement, is the gateway to creative dancing and
inspired improvisation. This class will cover fundamental footwork
and movement theory, giving you not only the established 'steps'
in your repertoire, but infinite variations from the divinely
simple to the impressively intricate. Whether you have no solo
jazz experience, or you know all the classic steps, this class
will open your mind and get those feet a'flying in ways you
didn't think possible!
Week 2 April 8: All Wrapped Up:
Mindbending Moves to Wind Your Partner Up
You've seen those moves that wind the dancers up in extraordinary
ways, then pop, snap or spin out of it, with energy that seems
to come from nowhere. Learn some of these tricky figures that
are impossible to pick up just from watching. With that delicious
rubberband stretch, these moves feel amazing and look astonishing.
Leaders will learn how to lead these movements without breaking
off her arm, while the followers learn the techniques to follow
these rollercoaster moves without throwing up. Lindy Hop experience
needed.
Week 3 April 15: Spice Up Your
Swingout
Footwork variations can spice up your swingout, without compromising
your partnered connection. They're also a great way to express
your own personality and respond to the music and your partner.
With a huge list of swing-out variations – including the
classics, some old favourites and the unusual – we'll
power through as many as we can and get you looking red hot
with some fancy footwork! Lindy Hop experience required.
Week 4 April 22: Hit the Breaks!
Learn some of Sharon and Juan's favorite Lindy Hop breaks, for
both the leader and the follower, as well as how to understand
the music so that you can hit that break every time! Learn how
to play with the intensity, style and rhythms of your breaks
and communicate this to your partner, for exciting and dynamic
musicality. Take away some cool new moves for the social dance
floor, plus a whole new range of musical possibilities! Lindy
Hop experience needed.
Week 5 April 29: Hot Solo Charleston
The Charleston was the dance that captured the spirit of the
1920s, danced with wild abandonment across America and the world,
ushering jazz dances into their place in popular culture for
the next three decades. It's also experiencing a huge revival
in swing dance scenes around the world and, well, it's a heap
of fun! This class will give you a flexible repertoire of classic
solo Charleston movement, an understanding of musical phrasing
and some killer Charleston variations to bust out on the social
floor. No experience needed.
Week 6 May 6: Lindy Challenge:
Fast & Furious
Prepare yourself for a challenge with this fast and explosive
Lindy Hop routine, then push it all to the edge of reason as
Sharon and Juan turn up the energy, the volume and the tempo!
With moves and technique to help you reach your potential, you'll
be burning the floor in no time. Bring water, a towel and get
ready to sweat. This class is definitely not for the feint hearted!
Lindy Hop experience needed.
